"Reunion Notes"

Fifty-Fifth Reunion, 2009

Dear Classmates, Widows, and Friends, 

This letter provides information and registration requirements for our 55th Reunion at West Point on April 23-26, 2009. This letter is going to all classmates, widows and friends of the class. It contains the registration form you need to submit with your payment by March 12, 2009. 

Based on confirmed hotel reservations this will be well-attended reunion. We have completely booked the Thayer Hotel, 150 rooms, and have 46 confirmed reservations at the Holiday Inn, five miles south of West Point’s south gate (Thayer Gate). If there are cancellations at the Thayer Hotel, those who have rooms at the Holiday Inn will be asked in the order in which they made their reservations if they wish to change to the Thayer. Bus transportation will be available between the two hotels.

General Information 

Class Business Meetings – Two:

  • 1st Mtg.: Friday morning, Lawn Terrace Room, Thayer. Reunion admin matters, 55th Reunion Gift, & vote on changes to our Constitution and By-Laws.

  • 2nd Mtg.: Friday after Supe’s briefing. Discuss our Memorial Article Program & elect the executive committee (“directors”) for the next five years.

 

Uniform of the Day:

  • Thursday Cocktails, Heavy Hors d’oeuvres: Casual attire (slacks & sport shirts).

  • Friday during the day: Casual attire (slacks & sport shirts).  

  • Friday dinner: Coat and tie.

  • Saturday: Coat and tie for Memorial Service & evening dinner.

Buses: Two buses max can load at a time at Thayer. Please help expedite by moving promptly & filling seats from rear. 

Family Members: All family members and guests are welcome to attend all activities.

Memorial Service: Saturday, Cadet Chapel, 10:00 a.m. We will read the names of classmates who have died since the 50th Reunion. The names of all classmates who have died will be printed in the bulletin.

Parking: 

  • Friday there will be virtually no parking on the level of the Plain. There will be parking at Alumni Center, cemetery (old PX parking lot), Gross Olympic & Lichtenberg Tennis Centers, & Lucas Military Heritage Center. 

  • Saturday, there will be parking in these same areas and very limited parking on the level of the Plain. You are advised to use our class buses which will operate in a shuttle fashion between points of interest.

Academy Mementos: Items from WPAOG may be ordered using the enclosed sheet and paid for separately from reunion registration fees. These items will be available for pickup at Registration at the Thayer.  Additional items may be ordered at registration.

Reunion Pictures: As at past reunions Corky Gabbert will take pictures and later post them to the Photo Album page (http://www.usma1954.org/Photos/Photos.htm) of the class website  (http://www.usma1954.org/). Many others will take interesting pictures. Corky will post these also if you send them to him as e-mail file attachments or mail him print copies that he can scan and post. It is best to provide all names (where feasible) when Corky adds captions for the Photo Album.

REMINDERS:  Please remember to indicate your choice of dinner entrees on your Registration Form.  Please also remember to indicate the exact way you want your names to appear on your name badges.
