FIFTY-FIFTH REUNION 2009
Dear
Classmates, Spouses and Friends of the Class
of 1954,
The
response by everyone indicating their
attendance at our 55th Reunion in April 2009
has been exceptional. There are currently
147 rooms booked in the Thayer Hotel and 47
reservations at the Holiday Inn. Based on
these numbers, we will have some 400
in attendance. If you have not made
reservations, it’s not too late. Call the
Thayer Hotel at 1-800-247-5047 and tell them
you are attending the Class of 1854 Reunion
April 23-29, 2009.
The
Reunion Committee has met several times in
the D.C. area and went to West Point June
11-13, 2008 to confirm the schedule, select
menu items, and check the facilities we will
use or visit during the reunion. Ev Drugge
has talked with bus companies about our
requirements and has some preliminary costs.
In
September the committee will put together
the costs for the buses, meals, printing of
brochures and memorial service bulletin,
name tags, postage, and costs for our
guests. Additionally, in September the
cadet calendar for the academic year
2008-2009 will be made firm. This will
affect our schedule for having lunch in
Washington Hall and for planning to see
athletic contests.
By the
first week in October we will have all the
information necessary to produce a
registration form. This form will be sent
to the West Point Association of Graduates (WPAOG)
in late October for printing. Our plan is
to e-mail and snail mail the registration
form to everyone in early January, 2009 and
ask for the registration form and money to
be sent in by the first week in March. For
the first time we are going to have the
WPAOG provide the option of on-line
registration, hoping that many will
appreciate the convenience of signing up and
paying on-line instead of submitting a
hard-copy registration form by USPS mail.
We are not
planning to include the purchase of any
special reunion mementos in the registration
cost. Many of the men may want to dust off
their straw hats from the 50th
reunion; and there will be an opportunity to
purchase one of these hats for our 55th.
Along with the registration form there will
be a sheet with six or eight items from the
WPAOG Gift Shop that can be ordered and paid
for in advance and picked up when you check
in and register at the Thayer Hotel.
In
February, members of the Reunion Committee
will make a trip to West Point to meet with
Academy and WPAOG personnel and the Class
Aides. At this time arrangements for all
reunion activities will be made final.
See all of
you there!
